With no internal providers able to reach Cocos Islands and a $10,000 Sporting Schools grant to spend, Deputy Principal Kylie Davis needed a team that could travel, adapt, and deliver something the school couldn’t get anywhere else.

The Challenge

Cocos Islands District High School couldn’t access any internal providers, and with a $10,000 Sporting Schools grant to use, standard twice-a-term sport sessions weren’t enough. Deputy Principal Kylie Davis needed flexibility — team building, leadership, something genuinely different — and a provider willing to travel all the way to Cocos.

What We Did

GeckoSports worked with the school to put together a tailored program using the grant, delivering team-building and leadership sessions rather than standard sport, and travelling out to the Cocos Islands to run it in person.

The Result

Students loved the change of pace, working in mixed groups to try something new together in short, high-energy activities that let them help each other along the way. Staff noticed the difference too, noting “you could tell the two staff were teachers, not just coaches,” with clear strategies for behaviour management and efficient transitions that kept participation high and wait time low. The school has already rebooked GeckoSports for the following year.
