At the start of the 2026 school year, Grandis Primary School wanted its staff to reconnect and start the year with a genuine sense of teamwork — without it feeling like a standard, awkward team-building session.

The Challenge

Deputy Principal Stephanie Williamson wanted her staff to reconnect and start the 2026 school year with a positive sense of teamwork, but didn’t want the session to feel like a “standard team building part of a staff development day.” With a wide range of ages, fitness levels and confidence levels across the staff, it mattered just as much that nobody felt uncomfortable, unable to participate, or overshadowed by more confident colleagues.

What We Did

GeckoSports designed activities that were accessible and light-hearted rather than competitive, letting every staff member — including the leadership team — take part fully instead of having to run the session themselves. The focus stayed on connection and collaboration rather than sporting ability, with staff deliberately mixed across their usual teams and roles.

The Result

The day was, in Stephanie’s words, “extremely well organised and facilitated,” with the GeckoSports team bringing energy that had staff engaged quickly. Staff worked with colleagues outside their usual teams and roles, and the day helped reinforce the collaborative culture Grandis wanted to keep building for the year ahead.
